The European Commission (EC) has published the Work Programmes for the H2020, including the one for theSocietal Challenge 1 “Health, Demographic Change and Wellbeing” for 2018-2020. Call 2018 for this Challengeis already open.
CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) have access to all activities, and most countries are eligible to receive funding from the EC calls. Total budget of all calls for the next 3 years is €30.000 million.

The CDTI (Spain) and the FINEP (Brazil), within the framework of their Institutional Agreement, invite proposals to the Second Bilateral Call for Technological Collaboration between companies from both countries. This call will allow the selection and financing of R&D projects in collaboration between a Brazilian company and a Spanish company.
This Call will be developed in two Phases:
- Phase I: Obtaining the stamp of international project. It will be open until June 30, 2019. The following cut-off dates will be available for the presentation of the proposals: March 31, 2018, June 30, 2018, October 31, 2018, March 31, 2019 and 30 June of 2019.
- Phase II: Financing. It will be opened once Phase I has been resolved. Only those projects that have previously achieved the international seal in Phase I may be submitted.

“La Caixa” Obra Social launches a call for 30 postdoctoral fellowships (Junior Leader “la Caixa”) in Spanish universities and research centers with the aim of hire the best national and international researchers to develop their projects.
These scholarships last 36 months and cover the salary and costs of research, as well as offering grants for relocation and housing, as well as a specific grant for researchers with children.

CONICYT has recently launch a call for proposals targeting young researchers in Chile (Ph.D. obtained between 14 /09/ 2010 and 14 /09/ 2017).
This call aims to support networking projects of 24 months for up to USD$28.000 (CLP$18.000.000) including all areas of knowledge and all countries around the globe.
The application is open ONLY for Chilean researchers or foreign researchers resident in Chile permanently.

JIRI-Health as a Joint Force to tackle EU-CELAC common health challenges

The EU-LAC Health Final Conference is the main dissemination event of the project, during which, main project results, as well as its impact will be presented and discussed with major stakeholders, project partners and advisors, and funders from both regions EU and CELAC.
JIRI-Health (EU-CELAC Joint Initiative on Health Research and Innovation) will inherit EU-LAC Health Roadmap, networks, and accumulated expertise and will continue EU-CELAC collaboration in the field of health research and innovation.
The EU-CELAC PLATFORM FOR FUNDING AGENCIES represents a group of funding agencies from Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe wishing to collaborate in bi-regional science, technology and innovation (STI).

EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion is conducting a research on cultural integration of Latin American researchers in Europe. Deadline: 15 March 2017
This quick survey of 11 questions will enable EURAXESS to collect researchers’ opinions, suggestions and comments, which are extremely helpful for the improvement of the services and prioritising new aims.
The analysis of the survey results will be presented and discussed in the series of workshops “Intercultural Communication: Understanding Latin American Researchers” during The Hague Conference, 16-17 May 2017.

The workshop’s aim was to identify and establish collaboration and synergies between the research and capacity development projects in support of the Zika virus response in Latin America and the Caribbean funded by GloPID-R members worldwide. It addressed the state of the outbreak, the ongoing research and the potential for collaboration across research groups. It also included discussions on the North-South partnerships, the use of common study protocols and governance structures, as well as data sharing.
The workshop brought together almost 70 participants, both funders and researchers, from nearly 50 different institutions, from 17 countries across the globe, as well as from the European Commission, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). It was co-organized by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the International Development Research Centre, the European Commission and the University of Sao Paulo.
Nearly 5 million euros to fund transnational health research and innovation projects between Europe and Latin-America and the Caribbean.
Entities from 19 different EU-LAC countries contribute to EU-LAC Health Joint Call for transnational projects in the area of health.
Consortia should include at least 3 different organization from 3 different countries from EU and LAC. Funding is decentralized; each funding agency will fund applicants from its respective country/region.

The European Commission (EC) has pre-published the draft text of the call for research on the Zika virus and the potentially-related neurological complications (enclosed), along with notice that adoption of the Commission Decision by the College of Commissioners is still pending.
The call is expected to be officially published on 15 March 2016, and the deadline for submission of proposals is expected to be 28 April 2016.
In order to facilitate the optimal preparation of research proposals, the EC has organized a webinar to present the topic and address questions on 16 February 2016 at 14:00 CET.

ERANeT-LAC has launched the 2nd Joint Call, which will be open from 1 December 2015 (15:00 CET) to 10 March 2016 (15:00 CET).
The aim of the ERANet-LAC Joint Calls is to start new, sustainable and multilateral research cooperation between researchers from Europe, Latin-America and the Caribbean countries. Within the framework of the 2nd ERANet-LAC Joint Call, transnational research and innovation projects will be funded for a period of up to 36 months.

The goal of the IARC “50 for 50” initiative is to identify 50 future leaders in cancer research from low- and middle-income countries, one for each year of IARC’s existence, who will be invited to spend a programmed week in Lyon:
- Participate in a specialized pre-conference workshop, Fostering Leadership in Cancer Research, 6–7 June 2016, at IARC.
- Attend, as full delegates, the conference on Global Cancer: Occurrence, Causes, and Avenues to Prevention, 8–10 June 2016, at the Centre de Congrès.
The conference registration fees and costs of participation in the pre-conference workshop will be covered, as well as travel, accommodation, and meals for the whole week.

The National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT) has launched the Call CONACYT – H2020 in order to make a record of participation of Mexican entities in H2020 EC program interested in receiving additional support from CONACYT through registering a pre-proposal in the System of Funds of CONACYT . All registered pre-proposals subsequently accepted by EC will be evaluated by CONACYT in accordance with the requirements and terms of reference of the call.
CONACYT will only finance up to 85 % of the approved proposal for the case of public institutions (Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), technology and research centers) and private HEIs; and up to 70 % of the total in the case of private entities, except HEIs. The supplement must be provided by the Mexican entity. The same percentages will be applied for physical persons adscribed to entities according to its nature.

Under the pro tempore Presidency of Costa Rica, Mr. Keilor Rojas, Vice Minister for Science, Education and Telecommunication and Ms. Maria Cristina Russo, Director for International Cooperation at European Commission , DG Research and Innovation, opened and chaired the two days of intensive and complex discussions on the future opportunities to be identified in the bi-regional Dialogue between the European and Latina American regions.
EULAC Health was among the invited EC initiatives providing technical support to the JIRI (Joint Initiative on Research and Innovation) SOM Working group on Health co-chaired by Spain and Brazil. The EU-LAC Health Project Coordinator, Mr. Rafael De Andrés Medina, intervened during the second day of work presenting to the Senior Officials from both regions the outcome of the work of the six scientific groups of experts who prioritized a list of research areas where both EU and LAC governments /funding agencies should be keen to invest in health research, as well as the draft of an EU-CELAC Joint Initiative on Health Research & Innovation with a proposal of pilot govenence.

The 2nd Scenario Building Workshop organized by EU-LAC Health Project will be held in Rome (Italy) on 11th and 12th of April 2013.
Potential areas for collaboration in health research between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean will be discussed at the first part of the workshop and possible funding instruments supporting this collaboration during the second day.

Santander Universidades opens the call 2013 of the Programme started in 2011 “Becas Iberoamérica. Jóvenes Profesores e Investigadores. Santander Universidades”. The main goal of the Programme is promoting the mobility of young researchers and university teachers between Latin American research centers and universities.
There will be 600 grants with a total funding of 5.000€ each awarded in this call. From these, 150 grants will be awarded in Spain, and the rest will be granted in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Portugal, Puerto Rico and Uruguay.
Deadline for proposals in Spain is 3rd March 2013.

EU-LAC Health project held its first Scenario Building Workshop in Buenos Aires during 22nd-23rd October 2012, organized by Argentinean Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation. Consortium partners, advisors and experts from Europe and Latin-America and the Caribbean regions met to discuss possible areas of collaboration in health research and potential instruments to articulate this collaboration in the future. The analysis of different prospective scenarios rendered valuable information for future progress in the design of the roadmap for cooperative health research between the two regions.

The 1st Scenario Building Workshop organized by EU-LAC Health Project will be held in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on 22nd-23rd of October 2012.
During the workshop the attendants will discuss the results of the survey on common research priority areas for cooperation between Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries and Europe (EU) in the health sector and possible scenarios in future collaboration between EU and LAC countries.

The Implementation Research Platform (IRP) announces a call for proposals to support implementation research that contributes to the scale-up of effective health interventions related to Millenium Development Goals (MDGs):
- Goal 4: reduce child mortality
- Goal 5: improve maternal health
- Goal 6: combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other disease

EU-LAC Health project was presented by its coordinator, Carlos Segovia, from the Institute of Health Carlos III in Spain, at the Open Information Day for the 7th call of the Health Theme (7th Framework Programme) by the European Commission at the Charlemagne Building in Brussels on 29th May 2012.
The Plenary Session was opened by Ruxandra Draghia-Akli, Director for Health Research, from Research & Innovation DG. Indridi Benediktsson, principal policy officer for international cooperation in the Health Directorate, moderated the International Cooperation session and pointed out the project as a model for cooperation between EU and other regions.

On March 19th and 20th 2012, the first EU-LAC Health expert-workshop, organized by Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ), took place in Rio de Janeiro. EU-LAC Health is a 5-year project co-financed by the European Commission through the 7th Framework Program (Health theme). Its aim is to discuss commonly with scientists, policy-makers and stakeholders an efficient coordination of health research policies and funding between the EU and LAC as well as to establish a consensus roadmap for cooperative health research for the future common collaboration. Altogether, the eight project partners, along with invited high-level Advisory Board-Members as well as several external experts from the European Union (EU) and from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) countries, discussed the current state of the EU-LAC Health research collaboration and planned future activities.

The aim of the Travel Grant Scheme is to promote exchange between Caribbean and European researchers as well as to encourage contacts between research institutions to explore possibilities for joint participation in FP7.
The Travel Grant consists of two components:
- The participation of Caribbean researchers at 2012 info-days and brokerage events in Europe in: Health, ICT, Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy, Energy, Environment (including Climate change).
- Visits to specific research centers / institutions with existing contacts or acquaintance with the grantee. The 2012 call is open from the 2nd of April 2012 to the 20th of July 2012 with different deadlines according to the themes of the events selected by the applicants.
